Last Day

October 6, 2005

Today was my last day of working for cirrus design, and I ended up having alot of fun. first thing I did was take some of the masking foam and made the worlds biggest earplugs

then, FROM MEMORY I drew the logo of one of cirrus’ competitors (Cessna) and taped it to my shirt. I knew that my supervisor would make me take it off as soon as he saw it, so before I taped the logo to my shirt, I stuck a piece of tape that said “Eric sucks” to my shirt so when I took off the logo he would know that he does in fact suck.

I was SO close to correctly drawing the Cessna logo the only thing I had wrong was the colors, I drove past their service center every day, so I had a lot of time to memorize it.

Everyone has their own tub that holds their ear plugs and respirator, so the last thing I did was 5 minute epoxy my supervisors tub shut. I put so much glue on it he’ll have to cut it open

Once work was over and I got home I saw a squirrel stuck in a coffee cup so I took a picture of it cause it was funny, then I went over and kicked the cup and the squirrel got out.

If you couldn’t tell by now, I have begun to use the camera on my phone because its cool. that’s it, I’m done stop reading.

Fun At Work

September 29, 2005

First off I have to apologized, I update my page on the 22nd of this month but forgot to upload it to the internet… sorry to keep you all waiting : )
Well, today sucked. With me having only a week left at Cirrus I don’t have much motivation to do anything constructive. so, the first deconstructive thing I learned today was that if you put one of the BIG rivets in the SMALL air powered rivet gun and squeeze it, the head of the rivet will shoot about 50 feet and if you are in close range… say five feet, those little suckers really sting. so everyone who walked by me today and said something about how I’m not working very hard got shot with a rivet.

After that, when they opened the door to bring in the next plane, a bird flew in before they could shut it, so with my newfound rivet shooting skills, I tried to kill/knock out that stupid bird, but after about 75 rivets it became clear that I had no chance of hitting a small moving target with a rivet, so I gave up and did a little work, but not before I got sidetracked by the masking tape and sharpie, I quickly wrote out a help note and stuck it to the inside of the cowl, I figure some service guy will find it some day and send reinforcements.

Got A Job

September 22, 2005

Alright, lets start from last week. I had an informal interview with the owner and sales rep of a small company that went very well and today they called and told me I got the job. So I put in my two weeks notice at Cirrus Design (which is where I’ve been working since last time I updated this page). The company’s name is Nextec Systems and they contract IT people to companies that are not large enough to have their own IT staff. I still have yet to Negotiate a salary.

I’m pretty excited about this. The last two weeks at Cirrus are going to be hell.

Aside from that, last weekend I took Mom and Jenn to the cities for a Green Day concert. It was great because Mom didn’t know where we were going. We were so close to the stage the band could spit on us (but they didn’t) before the concert we went to Ikea and looked at furniture and stuff. I think it was a very necessary experience for mom…

Finding Work

August 14, 2005

If you haven’t heard, the latest version of the windows operating system has been given a name (other than its code name: Longhorn)… “Windows Vista” stupid if you ask me, but no one consulted me on the name so I guess were all stuck with it.

ANYWAY, this “Windows Vista” was released in beta about a half a month ago an I JUST got a copy of it. What does beta mean you ask? it means that the release is not complete and is most likely still very buggy. Well regardless of that, I got it running and I’ve been playing with it all day (learning the new layout and trying to break it just so I can fix it)
after I got bored with that I made a South Park-ish cartoon of me and Jenn (boredom drives me to do pointless things like this)

(For your reference, in case your stupid, she’s on the left and I’m on the right)
a job: finding IT work is impossible, despite my hardest efforts to find a job relating to computers, I have failed horribly. In the past two weeks I have expanded my search for a good job statewide including large bordering cities such as Fargo, Grand Forks, Sioux Falls, and Superior but excluding the metropolitan area (because it sucks and I’m not going to consider the cities until I get rejected from every other employer in the state). So far, no luck. It turns out that as far as posted IT jobs go, Duluth is second only to the Metro area. In all the time I have spent applying & following up on job listings, only TWO have lead to Interviews, this pisses me off more than anything. I spend at LEAST an hour on every application I submit (good handwriting, proper grammar… all that crap) and only TWO of these companies felt I was worth contacting, what’s more, at both of these companies I had people on the inside pulling strings to get me an interview. Just thinking about it all makes me so angry I could spit fire, I mean I’m good at what I do, I’m damn good at what I do. Before I left Potlatch at least 75% of the people I worked with told me (without me asking) that I could use them as a reference, and I’m confident that if a future employer called ANYONE at the plant I’d get a good review, but what good is that IF THEY NEVER CALL, never even give me a chance =(

While I’ve been looking for work I’ve been temping for Kelly Services, doing the most awful things you could think of. I stuffed dead animals in boxes to send to rich people, I counted stock at Gordy’s Foods (that’s right, they had me ride all the way to Grand Rapids just to count stock), I fed laundry through an industrial Ironing machine, the list goes on and on. Seems like such a waste when I know there’s computers out there in desperate need of service. Tomorrow I’ll be starting at Cirrus Design as… an assembler of course. the good thing about this job is, I can stay there until I find a computer related job and I’ll be making as much as I was when I was an Intern at Potlatch, so its not as big of a blow as all the other temp work they had me doing. Another thing about Cirrus is, that they will be expanding their operations sometime and will no doubt need more IT staff, and that could be a good thing because they give applicants that already work for them priority. But I’m not putting much of any hope on that because this expansion of operations might not happen for another five years. I don’t know, Just writing all this has aggravated me so much, I just need to stop. so, um, yea, I’m done now.

At The Beach

July 13, 2005

Well, its been a hell of a month, and it went a little something like this: I looked for work, Robbie moved in, I looked for work, I went to the beach, I looked for work, I sold stuff on eBay, I looked for work, I put new brakes on my car, I looked for work, Robbie moved out and I looked for work. The good news is I’m getting used to doing interviews, the bad news is no one has hired me yet. I’m going stir crazy in this damn apartment too, all I want is a good job. So yea, that’s the status of things here.
To tide you all over, here are a couple of pictures of the sand castle that Jenn, Bob and I made

Jenns Car

June 9, 2005

Just about everything is set up in the apartment here. The brakes went out on my car so I ordered some new pads and rotors on eBay. Jenn is here and her car got hit just for bring parked on the wrong side of the road at the wrong time.
